A trainee loses twelve kilograms of body fat across an eighteen-month structured cut. The composition change is real. DXA confirms. Clothing fits differently. Lifts relative to bodyweight improve, run pace improves, blood markers improve. By the logic the fitness industry implies — that body image follows body composition — she should experience substantial body-image improvement. She reports instead: minor and short-lived satisfaction at goal weight, followed by reorientation to a new body-image target. The dissatisfaction has not resolved. The marketing's implicit promise has not delivered.

This is the canonical pattern Volume 40 corrects. Body image and body composition are distinct psychological and physical variables that move partially independently. The industry conflates them, markets the composition you don't have via the dissatisfaction it created, then sells you the products that won't resolve either. The honest framework treats them separately — composition is biology you can modestly modify; body image is psychology that requires its own work; eating disorders are clinical territory that belongs to qualified care.
